I’m the father of the most beautiful child in the world, as you can see to the left. In my free time, I love to write, cook, and bicycle. I spend most of my time as a pastor in the United Methodist Church but in my dream world, I travel all over the place doing good.
My love with Britain started in 1st Grade. Our teacher invited us to enter a pen pal exchange program. I asked for a pen pal from the UK and became friends with a young lady from Wales. We didn’t exchange too many letters (probably because of my poor penmanship) but I’ve been hooked ever since.
Upon graduating from grad school, I worked as an intern for a year. And while my experience and assumption prior to living there were, link many, London-centric and more than a little like a Richard Curtis movie, I fell in love with this “other England” that I experienced in the North. Not that I don’t love London (indeed, Mr. Johnson’s oft quoted quip about tiring of London remains true today), but England is a wonderfully diverse country. Each region, each village even, is unique and has much to offer to people willing to notice.
Since returning to the States, I try to get back over to Britain as much as possible. Sometimes work has taken me there while other times I have traveled on vacation. Now, in additon to friends, I have family that lives in the UK, giving more reasons to rub my pennies together.
In addition to traveling around Britain and the worldview of being post-expat (boomeranged expat?), I’m also interested in the uniquely challenging (and fun!) art of traveling with children. I’m always keen for a cheap airfare or a tip for whatever makes traveling with kid in tow easier!
