And So We Begin

I love to travel.  I love read about travel.  Nothing thrills me more than sitting in a bookstore, thumbing through travel guide after travel guide.  Sometimes, I do this to think about where I am going next.  Sometimes, I do it just for fun.  Before the Twin Towers fell, I would go to the international concourse of the airport.  I’d people watch folks as they scurried around.  Sometimes, people were excited.  Sometimes, people were frustrated.  Sometimes, people were simply annoyed.  But they were all going places.

And I was not.

When I finally finished school and began to travel myself, I simply loved it.  I’m not naive.  I know that the golden age of travel is over.  Airplanes are simply no more than buses with wings, now.  Nonetheless, I love getting on a plane in one place, where the people speak a certain language, behave a certain way, and have a certain set of assumptions.   When I leave the plane, I’m in a new place and the language, behavior, and cultural assumptions have changed.  Living in that tension if part of all the fun.

Of all the places I’ve travelled, none seem more of a natural fit than the United Kingdom.  And so writing about traveling to and within that amazing country is the definition of natural.

I know other people have done this type of thing, before.  And others have done this kind of thing better.  But none have had the experiences I’ve had and hope to have.  As we progress, where ever this thing is headed, I hope I’ll learn more about myself, my home, and my home away from home.  I hope to learn more about the people that have passions similar to me.
